Hawkes Bay hosts its first playoff game since 2015 where in a replay of round robin play sees Otago venture to McLean Park to take on the mighty Magpies. This is a mouth-watering repeat of the 2018 semi final where Otago pipped Hawkes Bay in overtime, will we see a repeat or will the Magpies have their revenge.
Both teams have had strong seasons with Hawkes Bay boasting a 7 game winning record with 1 draw and 2 losses and Otago staunchly defending the Ranfurly Shield for the majority of the season.
The Magpies will look to utilize the home advantage with having the best support and biggest crowds of the competition all season. Up front they ooze quality and experience in Ash Dixon, Gareth Evans and Brendon O'Connor, mix that with the youth and excitement in the backline where Folau Fakatava and Caleb Makene have been standouts all season. Otago also fields plenty of experience in their ranks with Adam Thomson James Lentjes and Dylan Nel forming a formidable loose forward trio with All Black Josh Ioane steering the ship and firepower out wide where All Blacks 7's reps Jonah Nareki and Vilimoni Koroi have scored plenty of points for the Blue and Golds.
Magpies Fans, you have been outstanding all season, this is the time where your team needs you the most so lets pack the park, cheer loud send Hawkes Bay into the final. See you at the game!
